Hackers are “Hacking all the things”.
We are starting to hear about environments like thermostats, heating, ventilation, air-conditioning using web interfaces and http custom protocols. Those are big security issues. Next, over the last several months there have been numerous cases of hackers taking root control of embedded Linux on webcams. Also, let’s not forget healthcare environments and controlled weapons systems. So what else is left?

Security technology has to move faster than hacking technology. The best defenses right now are updating, patching, logging, monitoring, maintaining strict policies for everything, especially on the use of passwords. On the email side as phishing is still extensively used by hackers, rules should be followed on authentication as set by an enterprise.
From all the reports, discussions and debates on breaches and hackers, there appears to be no end in sight. What we see and hear are reality. So, instead of waiting and doubting, retailers should start addressing their data security gaps right away.
