The position of a CISO has become an important one nowadays given that corporate security has taken priority over some of the usual business priorities. As we know by now if information security is  affected, it in turn affects the credibility of a business and the trust of customers. Customers will start to  shy away from spending at that particular retail chain.

All this means investing in people, investing in technology.

An information security executive such as a CISO is required to bring his or her expertise to the executives of a company. The CISO should be able to leverage the position to move projects such as data security and PCI Compliance forward. The CISO should also take responsibility in properly positioning the importance of information security and risks involved.

Challenges for a CISO

  • Building the right team
  • Securing budget to implement a security strategy
  • Being under intense scrutiny
  • Effectively communicating with a CEO
  • Being under high pressure to safeguard the security of the company and its customers
