More on ‘Data terrorists target vulnerable POS systems’ – the Subway sandwich shops’ hacking incident.

Read the previous blog posted on December 10, 2012 by Omega ATC on this topic. For expert hackers, this Subway attack was a planned one and quite easy to do since the basics for password protection were not followed by many of them.

The four Romanian criminals involved in this incident when questioned said that,

  • Remote desktop software applications helped them get access to the POS terminals.
  • After they gained access to the terminals, they guessed the passwords by using code-cracking programs or by using keystroke loggers.
  • The group also installed back-door Trojan program allowing them access for future installs of malware
