One often overlooked breach threat is the staff within an organization. The inside threats are almost as much as outside threats.

How common are these scenarios? An employee going through a marital problem, illness, financial stress; disgruntled about their boss, salary, co-worker, pay…?

Most often trademarked, patented and copyright threats are due to an employee’s involvement. The information is easily available to an employee and the standards set in place are just not adequate. Here are a few ways to mitigate threats or prevent them from happening in the first place.

  • Vigilance by management around
  • Coaching staff to become more aware of any signals they can pick up on
  • Putting standards and controls in place
  • Not giving overpowering authority to just one person
  • Setting up alerts and logs to safeguard sensitive data
  • Distributing classified information to different people so no one person has all pieces of a puzzle
  • Regulating user network privileges
  • Implementing monitoring systems to watch activities
